TUNEL labeling of E11.5 genital ridges containing GFP expressing primordial germ cells (PGC) in wildtype (A) and Cx43 KO (B) mouse embryos. TUNEL labeling is visualized by BrdU incorporation detected using Alexa Fluor 546 conjugated anti-BrdU antibody (red). In the genital ridges from the KO mouse embryo, we noted many regions containing TUNEL positive GFP expressing PGCs (see white arrows in B). Image taken from Francis RJ and Lo CW. Primordial germ cell deficiency in the connexin 43 knockout mouse arises from apoptosis associated with abnormal p53 activation. Development 2006;133(17):3451-60. |
